A 20-year-old man drove himself to Strong Memorial Hospital after being shot on West Main Street shortly after 3:15 this morning in Rochester.

Capt. John Koonmen of the Rochester Police Department said that officers were responding to a report of shots fired in the area of 567 West Main St. when an officer at Strong, working on another incident, reported that a man had arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound.

Koonmen said police investigators believe an altercation occurred in front of a convenience store on West Main St. when one of the men in the altercation produced a handgun and fired several rounds.

The injured man, whose name was not released by police, was being treated for at least one gunshot wound, that to his upper body.

Koonmen said that the investigation into the shooting continues.
